Ohio Valley River Museum

Clarington, Ohio

We’ve asked everyone we’ve run into, and no one seems to know. Take a look at this picture, paying close attention to the line “To Steamer Liberty, Dr.” (click picture for a larger version)

What no one seems to know (or be able to figure out) is what the ‘Dr.’ stands for at the end of that line.

Do you know what the ‘Dr.’ means? Leave a comment here and help us solve the mystery.

And we have an answer to our mystery! After a quick post by Taylor Abbott on steamboats.org, we found out that the answer is ‘dock receipt!’

  2. Ohio Valley River Museum says:

Actually, we might not have a definite answer. Woody Rutter from Marietta, Ohio says that it stands for ‘Debtor.’ Anyone else out there have a different answer?
